If you’re sitting around wondering “what should I do with these extra hours I have on my hands” here’s a list of things to check out while you’re in town. They’re some of our favorite places.
VMFA
One of the most beautiful museums in the country is nestled in the Fan in Richmond, VA. Admission to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is free, and parking is plentiful. If you’ve got a free morning or afternoon, you won’t regret spending it here. They’ve also got lovely restaurants like Amuse and Best Cafe right on site. One of Morgan’s favorite Georgia O’Keeffe paintings lives here. There’s also a giant statue of a bunny.

Belle Isle / Brown’s Island
If you’re going to be in town on Friday night, you can catch concerts on Brown’s Island. There’s music, food and outdoor shenanigans. If you’re there any other time, you should still check out Belle Isle. Bring a swimsuit and sunbathe on the rocks by the river. Sounds strange, but it’s one of the most relaxing things you can do in Richmond. We spent many, many afternoons lazing about Belle Isle and poking fun at locals.

Carytown
Carytown is one of Morgan’s favorite places to go for a lazy walk. From thift stores to boutiques and music shops to ice cream parlors – Carytown has it all. It’s also one of the most dog and hipster friendly areas of the city.

The Byrd Theatre
Oh, the Byrd. $2 movies in a historical monument. This place is Richmond at it’s finest. It’s cash only, but there’s free parking around the corner. To top it all off, if you’re around on Saturday night, Bob the Mighty Wurlitzer will play his organ for you before the show. The Byrd was a Morgan-and-Adam staple while we lived there.
